MP Popov admits his minor son’s detention for robbery. VIDEO

Member of Oleh Lyashko's Radical Party faction Ihor Popov says his 14-year-old son was indeed detained on charges of armed robbery of a grocery store in Kyiv.

The lawmaker wrote on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.

"A misfortune has descended upon my family. My 14-year-old son hung with some bad guys and committed a serious offense. It's my fault that I have not spent enough time for parenting, took insufficient care of him, and failed to prevent that. I offer my apologies to the victims, community, my relatives, my great team.

Thank God everyone is alive. The investigation will be completed while all those guilty without any exception will be held accountable. Let this be a lesson both to me and my son," he wrote.

He also asked not to tie his grief with politics or with someone's under-the-carpet battle.

"If it were not for my publicity, I would have been grieving silently. My friends will offer me a moral support. I ask the press to savor no details. I am going to suspend my publicity and stay with the family for a while," Popov said.

As reported by Censor.NET citing the Insider, the MP's son and his accomplice, born in 2002, broke into the grocery store at Kyiv's Rokossovskyi Avenue on Nov. 26. Both attackers were later detained. The law enforcers found a balaclava and a starter pistol on the lawmaker's son.
