Poroshenko: We have stopped the most powerful army of the continent at our eastern border. We are fighting against regular units of the Russian armed forces. VIDEO

The Armed Forces reform which is underway in Ukraine is far from finished.

This was stated by President Petro Poroshenko in his address to the Parliament, Censor.NET reports.

"Each of us knew exactly what he was getting into a year ago. In times of Yanukovych everything was given away to the neighboring country. In addition to eliminating the army and security services, the matters of reverse gas supplies were conducted by a Russian citizen, who also fled to the Russian Federation," he told the MPs and members of the Cabinet.

The president outlined the current situation in the country: "Crimea has been annexed, larger part of the Donbas has been captured. Pro-Russian militants fuel the situation in other peaceful cities."

He expressed conviction that the Kremlin was preparing to dismember Ukraine, knowing that the Ukrainian army had been completely destroyed by its 'fifth column'.

According to him, there are currently over 50,000 Ukrainian heroes fighting in the ATO area. The total number of the armed forces has been increased to 250,000. However, the army still lacks the basic necessities. Poroshenko stated that the armed forces reform, which has already commenced is far from being finished.

"Today, we have the means to defend our motherland. We have stopped the most powerful army of the continent at our eastern border. After all, we are fighting against regular units of the Russian armed forces," the head of state said.

Poroshenko stressed that the fact that we managed to preserve Ukraine in such difficult conditions is his and all the people's most important achievements.

"The main achievement of the year is that we have preserved Ukraine, all of us," he said.

Poroshenko also noted that he was not satisfied with the pace of the country's development, with the work of the Parliament, or his own work.

"People often ask me if I'm pleased with the work of the Cabinet. No, I am not pleased! Am I pleased with the work of the Parliament? No, I am not. I'm not pleased with my work. I cannot complain about the criticism in the press. But no one criticizes me as I do myself. I, we, the ministers, are certainly not the one who have it the hardest in our country," he said.
