Opposition Demands to Punish Management of the First National TV Channel: 90% of Air Time is Lies and Dirt on the Regime Opponents. VIDEO

One of the opposition leaders Oleksandr Turchynov and Batkivschyna representative in the Central Election Commission Ruslan Knyazevych demand to punish the management of the First National TV Channel.

Censor.NET reports that opposition representatives think that it is the management that has to be held responsible for untruthful information being broadcast.

Turchynov and Knyazevych state that the Party of Regions has been long pretending that we have a constitutional and legal election process.

"They cross the line with direct rough, dirty propaganda with the use of the national TV using administrative resources against the United opposition as its main opponent," said Turchynov.

"For three days the First National TV Channel has been running a 6-minute movie captioned as "Political advertisement" that none of it but instead contains false untruthful information regarding the United opposition and its leaders," said Knyazevych.

He explained that it is a gross violation of the law since the ad has to contain the name of the purchaser or the full name of the candidate who ordered the ad. "Moreover, this text has to take no less than 15% of the screen and be in contrast to the background. There is no definition, no mention of the purchaser in the ad," said the opposition representative.

According to Knyazevych, the law states that any subject of the elections who thinks that information in an ad is untruthful has the right for a broadcast reply in the same amount of time and for no charge. "In accordance with the law we referred to the First National Channel with a request to place such a reply but they refused."

That is why according to Knyazevych the opposition referred to the CEC for it to demand the information regarding the purchasers of the ad, agreements signed with him, and the payment documents.

According to unofficial information obtained by the opposition, "the purchaser is one of the plurality candidates of a Kiev district who is affiliated with the Party of Regions."

"We have no other option but to refer to observing missions, diplomatic institutions, and PACE."

The opposition also appealed to the Attorney General because "such actions are illegal under article 157 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine since they mislead voters."

"If the TV channel violates the conditions of the license on election advertisement the corresponding state institutions have to react and take adequate measures, which may include even revoking the license.

"We demand to be given the right to answer as the law demands," he said and added that otherwise they will file a lawsuit in court.
