Washington, D.C. recently hosted the annual festival of the Ukrainian culture - one of the largest in the United States.

Censor.NET reports citing ForumDaily.

The festival was first held in Silver Spring, Maryland, 14 years ago by a small community at the initiative of Rector of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Andrew Father Volodymyr. The festival has become an annual and much-loved event since then. About 10,000 people enjoy it today.

Each year, the festival organizers prepare an exciting concert program allowing the guests not only to try the favorite dishes of Ukrainian national cuisine, ranging from borshch and dumplings to pampushkas and holubtsi, but also enjoy an interesting concert program. Many people attend the festival in order to look at the exhibition of handcrafted goods and souvenirs that are valued for every American Ukrainian.

Vyshyvankas become a hit of this year's holiday - the Ukrainian embroidered shirts were in great demand. The Americans who very much liked the handcrafted and one-of-a-kind goods purchased them as well.

"We are pleased that Ukraine is on trend today," vyshyvanka sellers say, adding they will bring even more colorful and interesting t-shirts to the next year festival.

The Annual Ukrainian Festival is not only an occasion for the people to relax with their families and remember their origins, but also the opportunity to help their fellow-countrymen fighting for the freedom of their home country, Ukraine. Last year, volunteers raised more than $6,000 in donations for the army needs.
