This is the 7th launch under the Vega program and the first one to have taken place in 2016.

A Vega rocket, powered by a Ukrainian-produced engine, has been launched from the Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana, Censor.NET reports referring to the State Space Agency of Ukraine press service.

"At 4:43 a.m. Kyiv time, Sept. 16, 2016, a European light-weight Vega rocket was launched from the space base in Kourou, French Guiana, carrying the Peru Sat-1 and SkySats 4, 5, 6, and 7 for American operator Terra Bella owned by Google," the statement notes.


As noted, Vega (Vettore Europeo di Generazione Avanzata - Advanced Generation European Carrier Rocket) is an expendable lightweight launch vehicle developed jointly by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Italian Space Agency.

"The RD-843 engine that powers the carrier's 4th segment is designed by Yanhel Pivdenne Design Bureau SE and manufactured by Makarov Pivdennyi Machine Building Plant SE," the press service notes.
