Chornobyl nuclear plant police officers together with border guards have detained four citizens of neighboring Czech Republic who illegally entered the exclusion area for tourist purposes.

This was announced by communications department of Kyiv regional police office, Censor.NET reports.

Police officers and border guards revealed four citizens of the Czech Republic while patrolling in Chornobyl-2 area on Aug. 25. Three men and a girl illegally entered the exclusion area bypassing checkpoints for the purpose of extreme tourism.

The delinquents were delivered to a local police precinct and held administratively liable under article 46-1 of Administrative Offense Code (violation of radiation safety regime in areas of radioactive pollution), which stipulates for a fine and confiscation of means of offense.


The materials of the case have been sent to Ivankiv district court of the Kyiv region for a ruling.

The law enforcers have expelled the delinquents from the exclusion area.

Police reminds that visiting Chornobyl nuclear plant area and surroundings without permission and accompanying persons might lead to radiation exposure and falling victim to damaged buildings.
