Poltava-born Major of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade Denys Lesniak was killed Aug. 15 while carrying out a combat mission near Yelyzavetivka, the Donetsk region.

This was announced by Censor.NET Chief Editor Yurii Butusov on Facebook.

"Poltava-born Major of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade Denys Lesniak is 37 years old. He will be 37 years old forever...

"On Aug. 15, while on a combat mission near Yelyzavetivka, the Donetsk region, Denys died a heroic death. I liked communicating with Den Les (Den Lesniak) - he was a real military professional. He used to serve as a commander of the anti-aircraft artillery battalion of the 128th Mountain Infantry Brigade in the vicinity of Debaltseve. He was a true leader, a man of independent thinking and analytical mind. He never complained about the situation. Despite any attacks or casualties, he did not lose his temper and always thought of completing combat missions.

"In 2015, he and a group of officers of the 128th Brigade formed the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade from scratch. I asked him to write an article reflecting his view of the situation when Ukrainian troops were breaking through the Debaltseve encirclement. He outlined everything clearly and correctly. I'm going to publish this article in September..," the journalist noted.

According to Butusov, Denys Lesniak has recently switched to reconnaissance missions.

"He is survived by his wife and three kids... Today, he will be buried in his native Poltava. At 11 a.m., the funeral ceremony will take place at the Holy Dormition Cathedral. You will be sorely missed, Dan. You have sacrificed your life, your intelligence for us to live on, because the army and the homeland have never been empty words for you, your life was filled with action... We are eternally grateful to you... We won't forget you," Butusov wrote.
