The law enforcement officers interfered into the plan announced by the religious procession organizers due to security threats.

Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov wrote on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.

"As the Minister of Internal Affairs, I follow not the religious observance in the current situation. I am governed by the priority of public security.

"That is why, having received the relevant information today, I instructed to intervene in the plan of the religious procession movement through Kyiv announced by its organizers in order to prevent possible terrorist attacks and provocations against the procession of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). Dummy explosive devices and real grenades found along the procession's planned route in the morning made it clear that the threats and provocations were true. The Interior Ministry has blocked the procession's way through Kyiv by efforts of the National Police and National Guard. The safety of citizens is more important than the religious observance," the minister wrote.
