Poroshenko signs law on SOF, declares July 29 Day of SOF. PHOTOS

During a meeting with commandoes, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the Law No. 4795 “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine regarding the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” adopted by the Verkhovna Rada.

"The law that completes creation of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is signed today," Poroshenko said, calling it "the imperative of our time that increases Ukraine's defense capability."

The law defines the legal status and the use of Special Operations Forces in special operations independently or in conjunction with other branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to create favorable conditions for the success of the military, political, economic and other activities in the interests of national security in the field of national defense.

The law was developed in line with NATO standards. It is fully consistent with the tasks of Ukraine - NATO cooperation regarding the SOF creation, as well as provisions of the Strategic Defense Bulletin.

The president also decided to establish the Day of Special Operations Forces in Ukraine, which would be celebrated annually, on July 29.
