Investigator and police inspector apprehended in Cherkasy region while taking 49,000 hryvnia bribe. PHOTOS

Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) apprehended the acting deputy chief of the investigation department of one of the district departments of the Cherkasy City Police for bribery.

Censor.NET reports citing the press service of the SBU.

"The investigator and a local policeman demanded money from a local resident for canceling of a criminal prosecution for bodily injury. Officers of the SBU together with the Prosecutor's Office and National Police officers apprehended the deputy chief in his office while he was taking a 49,000-hryvnia bribe ($2,000 - ed.). The police inspector was apprehended near the district police department," the statement reads.

Criminal proceeding has been opened under Article 386 (part 3) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Involvement of the apprehended police officers in other cases of corruption is being checked.
