President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko paid tribute to deceased Ukrainian soldier Ivan Zaluzhnyi together with his grandfather, 97-year-old veteran of the World War II Ivan Zaluzhnyi Sr. in Zaporizhia today.

Censor.NET reports citing the statement on Poroshenko's Facebook.

The statement reads: "Together with Ivan Zaluzhnyi Sr. we paid tribute to his grandson Ivan Hutnyk-Zaluzhnyi, who gave his life to rescue his fellows-in-arms. We also paid tribute to all those who died during the war for our independence.

"23-year-old Lieutenant Ivan Zaluzhnyi was killed near Amvrosiivka in the Donetsk region while rescuing his fellows-in-arms. It was his grandfather-hero, who brought up a grandson awarded with the Order for Courage. 97-year-old Ivan Zaluzhniy Sr. survived through the World War II. He participated in the battle of Stalingrad and completed his path of soldier in the Far East. I bow low before the Ukrainian soldiers of all times and all generations!"
