The criminal proceeding has been opened with regard to the crimes indictable by the Article 115 (murder) and Article 365 (police excess) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the statement reads.
As part of this special operation the police officers raided more than 20 locations. The officers of the Chernihiv patrol police special battalion participated in investigative activities.
The criminal case has been opened over commission of particularly serious crimes against Euromaidan participants. The members of the Oplot organized criminal group are suspected in commission of these crimes. They took part in illegal actions known as Antimaidan in the capacity of the so-called "titushki". The members of the organized crime group may as well be involved in separatist activities in the East of Ukraine.
Leader of the Oplot Evgeny Zhylin is currently wanted.
The searches in Kharkiv were also conducted in facilities owned by the representatives of local authorities of Kharkiv region, in particular, in the "National" hotel.
Two Verkhovna Rada deputies tried to interfere during the proceedings. Arsen Avakov wrote in his comment on Facebook that they were Sviatash and Zviahylskyi.
The police insist on the inadmissibility of such an intervention and reserve the right to respond to unlawful attempts to influence the investigation according to the laws of Ukraine.
