Snow collapse occurred Monday in Odesa - the traffic was blocked in the city and on the motorways of the region caused by heavy snowfalls. This was reported by Odesa media and social networks users, Censor.NET reports citing lb.ua.
Strong wind blew to the city from the sea during the day. The peak of bad weather occurred between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The traffic jams hit their record level of 10 points out of 10 at 12 p.m. Monday. Cars and public transport got stuck in the snow capture.
Hundreds of cars were blocked at the ferry crossing in Illichivsk, 25 km from Odesa. The snow covered other regional motorways as well.
Starting from afternoon, Odesa residents began to offer assistance to each other on Facebook.
People offered help to those who stuck in a blizzard, as well as heating, tea, coffee or dinner, and overnight accommodation.
Apart from citizens, the assistance was offered by local companies. Public cafes and stores acceppted people to warm up; one of the shopping malls was treating those freezing with tea and snacks and showed the movies for free.
Initiative groups were also helping women in labor, as well as elderly and disabled persons who got stuck in the snow.
At the same time, local public utility companies did not function properly - very few snowplows were noticed on the streets. The city's mayor Hennady Trulhanov promised that he would call to city's officials to clean up the city on Dec. 30. He asked hotel owners to accept those who stuck on the road for overnight accomodation.
