A group of people who painted Lenin monument and Glory monument in Russian city of Novosibirsk into Ukrainian national colors of blue and yellow were detained.

This was announced by the Novosibirsk regional governor Vladimir Gorodetskii, Censor.NET reports citing TASS.

Gorodetskii dubbed the deed 'vandalism.'

"I believe this situation should not leave people indifferent. Today I was informed that the group of people who committed the vandalism were detained," the governor announced.

Two criminal proceedings were initiated under part 2, article 214 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (vandalism committed on the basis of political, ideological, racial, national or religious hatred or feud).

It was reported earlier that unknown people painted military equipment placed on the Glory monument in Novosibirsk into colors of the Ukrainian flag. The city's Lenin monument was also painted in blue and yellow, and the pedestal was decorated with an inscription 'Glory to Ukraine!'
