Law enforcers apprehended a crime ring consisting of policemen who covered activities of pickpockets and thieves at Kyiv’s railroad station.

As reported by Censor.NET referring to the press service of the Prosecutor's Office, the crime ring members were detained in joint special operation of the Internal Security Department of the National Police and Kyiv’s prosecutors on Jan. 25, 2018.

The officers of the criminal police department of the railroad station-based precinct covered crimes committed by pickpockets and thieves.

At least five criminal police operatives and several groups of professional thieves who paid a tribute to the law enforcers for cover were involved in the ring led by the police lieutenant colonel in charge of the criminal police department. The thieves also shared the valuables stolen from the travelers with the corrupt policemen.

Seven crime ring members were indicted with grievous crimes punished by up to 12-year prison terms with confiscation of property.

The law enforces conducted more than 35 raids in the apartments and offices associated with the perpetrators under the criminal case initiated Jan. 25, 2018.

The motions have been drafted to place the ring members into pre-trial custody.
