8-Meter-Tall Lenin Statue Demolished in Downtown Mariupol. PHOTOS

Last night unknown persons with the help of a cable pulled down 8-meter-tall statue of Lenin from the pedestal in the center of Mariupol.

The event occurred about 2:00 a.m., Censor.NET reports citing 0629.

According to the website, the people who took down the monument came in a truck, tied a cable around the statue's neck, tied it to the truck and pulled. The statue fell on the slabs below and split.

Representatives of Mariupolteploset (Mariupol District Heating) were at the scene with vehicles and equipment in the morning.

There were also police officers, who documented the fact.

The monument at the crossroads of Lenina and Stroitelei prospekts was erected on April 22, 1987 in honor of the 117th anniversary of Lenin's birthday.

Currently there are four monuments of Lenin left in Mariupol.
