According to the press release of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, this was stated by Minister Arsen Avakov, Censor.NET reports.
According to him, the detained young men planned to commit a terrorist attack even earlier - on the day when Odesa was remembering the victims of the events that took place on May 2 in the local Trade Unions building. Owing to the fact that the police has taken the necessary precautions in the place of concourse, the attackers did not dare to commit the crime. Later, the young men tried to carry out their plan during a rally outside the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Odesa, but they were detained by law enforcement officers.
The police also found two more explosive devices. One of them was skillfully made and had a rather large capacity. Avakov noted that the actions of the detained young people were aimed at destabilizing the situation in the city. He also assured that the heads of local police are determined to uphold law and order in the region.
"The Interior Ministry is doing everything to show people that they are protected, and what happened in Odesa will not happen again," Avakov said.
