One of the leaders of the Russian Orthodox Army terrorist group which operates in Eastern Ukraine was arrested in the Donetsk region.

Censor.NET reports, citing the Security Service of Ukraine press service, that Mykolaiv resident who was part of the group of 50 armed militants was firing at Ukrainian servicemen who were defending the checkpoint in Amvrosievskyi district of the Donetsk region.

"Marines managed to repel the fire and apprehend their leader. During the arrest, he (the militant leader) was dressed in an unmarked military uniform and balaclava. He had on him a live RGD-5 grenade, AKS-74, and live ammunition magazines," the press statement of the Security Service says.

According to the detainee, he received arms and ammunition in the building of the Security Service of the Donetsk region from the leaders of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic.

The court decided to detain the criminal. Criminal proceedings were initiated in accordance with articles "Terrorist Act" and "The Illegal Circulation of Weapons".

In May Mykola Yakubovych, a former policeman and a centurion of the 28th Hundred of the Maidan Self-Defense who was captured by the terrorists, said that kidnappings in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions are handled by the Russian Orthodox Army which is a breakaway cell of the Kharkiv Oplot organization.

Earlier it was reported that the Security Service of Ukraine neutralized a group that sent mercenaries to Donbas.
