Ukrainian enterprise CEO Skyba detained by Belarus secret services

Another citizen of Ukraine detained in Belarus - secret services apprehended the director of Ukraine’s mud weighting material producer based in Kostiantynivka, the Donetsk region while on a business trip to the Minsk Tractor Plant.

Censor.NET reports citing the letter from the enterprise management to Ukrainian Ambassador to Belarus Ihor Kyzym of Nov. 16, published by LB.UA.

According to the letter signed by plant's Acting CEO Kozmenko, CEO of Weighting Material Plant PJSC Oleksandr Skyba (born on May 7, 1978) arrived in Minsk on a business trip Nov. 15 to negotiate a contract with Minsk Tractor Plant OJSC. The Ukrainian company apparently supplied raw materials for the Belarusian plant's foundry.

Skyba took Kyiv-Minsk flight departing at 2:20 p.m. on Nov. 15 and arrived in the Belarusian capital city at 4:15 p.m. local time. He said on the phone that he was going back on the same day.

However, Skyba called his wife from some Belarus-registered cell phone next morning and said that he had been detained by the Belarusian KGB.

"As we tried to find out what had happened to our colleague, we called to the Belarusian KGB in Minsk seeking to speak with the duty officer. The person who introduced himself as a deputy duty officer confirmed that they had our colleague in custody," the letter reads.

However, the Belarusian law enforcer disclosed no details and reasons for the detention promising to call back should the need arise.

Earlier, on Nov. 17, Staff correspondent for Ukrainske (Ukrainian) Radio in Belarus, a Ukrainian national Pavlo Sharoiko was detained by the Belarus law enforcement under espionage charges.
