PGO appeals against insufficient bail Kaskiv was released on, - spokesperson for prosecutor general


The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) filed an appealed against the decision of the Pechersk district court of Kyiv to release ex-Head of the State Investment Agency Vladyslav Kaskiv on bail of 160,000 hryvnia (about $6,000).

As reported by Censor.NET citing Espresso.TV, spokeswoman for the prosecutor general Larysa Sarhan said that the Appeals court of Kyiv registered the motion. However, the date of the hearing is unknown so far.

Sarhan says that the court would have released Kaskiv on bail in any case under the law. The Prosecutor General's Office requested the court to increase the bail from 160,000 to 480,000 hryvnia.

"In accordance with the law and taking into account the fact that Kaskiv have compensated 7,470,000 hryvnia in damage he caused to the state budget, the PGO requests the court to release him on bail in the amount of 480,000 hryvnia," Sarhan said.

Nov.1, the Pechersk district court of Kyiv arrested ex-Head of the State Investment Agency Vladyslav Kaskiv for two months with a possibility to be bailed out following his extradition from Panama. He was bailed out on Nov.2.

Earlier, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko announced that ex-Head of the State Investment Agency of Ukraine Vladyslav Kaskiv was apprehended in Panama Aug. 18. Deputy Prosecutor General Yevhen Yenin informed that the Panamanian court imposed 40 days of pretrial custody against Kaskiv with the right to post $600,000 in bail.

As previously reported, in 2012 Kaskiv signed a $1 billion contract with Spain's company Gas Natural on investment in a liquefied gas (LNG) terminal on Ukraine's Black Sea Coast. Later, the Spanish side stated it did not know the person who had signed the contract on its behalf. The man's name was Jordi Sarda Bonvehi, a ski instructor from Barcelona region.
