Early elections out of question, Poroshenko says

There will be no early elections in Ukraine, according to President Petro Poroshenko.

Censor.NET reports referring to Radio Svoboda quoting Poroshenko as saying at a meeting of the Regional Development Council in Kyiv.

"I'll take every effort to ensure political conditions for reforms and investments as well as a coordinated position within the triangle "president-government-parliament." There is less than a year left before the scheduled electoral cycle begins for the presidential and Verkhovna Rada elections. There will be no early elections," he said.

In 2014, Ukraine held extraordinary presidential and parliamentary elections. Poroshenko's presidential term and that of the current convocation of the Verkhovna Rada expire in 2019.

The need for early Verkhovna Rada election has been voiced, in particular, by leader of Batkivshchyna Yuliia Tymoshenko, co-chairman of the Opposition Bloc faction Yurii Boiko and former President of Georgia, former head of Odesa region administration Mikheil Saakashvili.
