Searches at Odesa city hall: NABU verifies mayor's possible involvement in two criminal offenses

National Anti-Corruption Bureau detectives are conducting searches to establish possible involvement of Odesa mayor Hennadii Trukhanov in two criminal offenses.

Censor.NET reports citing NABU's press service.

The bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office are conducting searches as part of two criminal proceedings related to alleged abuse of office by officials of the Odesa city council and private entities controlled by the latter, both residents of Ukraine and offshore jurisdictions.

The first case probes possible appropriation of state funds by overrating the cost of road reconstruction and further transferring the illegally obtained income to the accounts of offshore companies.

The second proceeding concerns the transfer of the assets of the public enterprise Odesa International Airport to the charter capital of Odesa International Airport LLC, which the NABU believes resulted in the alienation of the public property and caused damage in the amount of more than UAH 100 million ($3.74 million).

"The searches are being carried out both at the homes of persons who may be involved in these criminal offenses and at the places where things and documents relevant to the criminal proceedings may be found. Since the detectives are also verifying Odesa mayor's possible involvement in these criminal offenses, investigative actions (searches) are being conducted at the place of his work and residence," the press service added.

Earlier, the NABU was reported to be conducting searches at the Odesa mayor's office.
