"We need to find a formula that will define the price for gas until full liberalization of the market, and we are working on it. I don't think we will need more time," Danyliuk told a briefing in Washington, D.C. on Sunday after meeting with IMF leadership the day before.
He said neither the Ukrainian side nor IMF insist on a certain formula.
"Our program includes another key principle that the prices have to be at CIF equivalent. This means that the prices the gas is sold at in Ukraine should meet the level of prices the gas is imported to Ukraine at. So we look at import price as a reference point, not at exchange market, and take it as a basis," the minister explained.
"How we calculate it and where it takes us - we're currently working on it. But the key thing is to write this principle down so that we do not go in wrong direction, and we have full understanding with IMF on that," Danyliuk said.
