Ukraine-Hungary relations in tough phase, but hopefully problems will be solved jointly, - Hungarian Ambassador to Ukraine Keskeny


Hungarian ambassador in Ukraine Ernő Keskeny said that the relations between his country and Kyiv are tough, but he hopes the two countries will overcome this period.

The ambassador said he hopes Ukraine and Hungary will find a joint solution of the language-related issue in Ukraine's education as stipulated by the new Education Act. Keskeny told a press conference in Kyiv on Friday, Censor.NET reports citing UNIAN.

He told the reporters that as they may see from the press, Ukraine and Hungary are currently in a tough phase of their relations.

Keskeny said he hopes the two countries will overcome this and will be able to find a joint solution for the problematic issues and challenges that stand between Kyiv and Budapest.

The newly adopted Education Act of Ukraine provides that education in schools can be held in the languages of ethnic minorities up to 4th grade. From the 5th grade up, school students are obliged to take all classes in Ukrainian, the only state language in Ukraine. The provision sparked criticism by Budapest, which threatened to block Ukraine decisions in the EU over the language provision.
