ATO soldiers' salary set at 17,000 hryvnia since Sept. 1, additional bonus paid for participation in combat activities, - Defense Ministry

A salary paid to privates of "soldier" rank who conduct tasks in the anti-terrorist operation area (ATO) has been set at 17,000 hryvnia ($644 monthly).

This was announced by deputy head of Finance Department of the Defense Ministry Serhii Halinskyi during a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraine.

"7,000 hryvnia is a basic cash collateral, 10,000 hryvnia is an additional payment, starting from the second full month in the ATO area. In addition, if a soldier participated in combat activities personally or hit enemy hardware, an extra bonus payment is made," Halinskyi said.

The new system of payments has been put in place since Sept. 1, 2017.

The official added that paratroopers and marines are paid more than other Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen.

"The volume of spending in 2017 allows us to fully ensure the payment of collateral at the level not less than in 2016, and wages that include the increase of the minimum wage in the state," Halinskyi stressed.

The Defense Ministry official said the ministry has sufficient funds to restore weapons and military equipment, train troops, maintain and improve communication systems.

"At the moment, there is no debt in collateral payments... In 2016, we spent only 1.9 billion UAH on remuneration to the participants of the ATO, and during eight months of this year we have already spent 2.2 billion UAH," said Halinskyi.
