Cars with European plates will be cleared through customs for 1,000 - 1,400 euros, - Yuzhanina

The transition to Ukrainian plates for cars brought to Ukraine with foreign registration will cost their real owners from 1,000 to 1,400 euros depending on the engine capacity. The required amendments will be adopted by the Parliament in the near future.

Head of tax and customs policy committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Petro Poroshenko Bloc MP Nina Yuzhanina told Espreso.TV, Censor.NET reports.

"When we calculated, the amounts turned out to be not that big. The category up to 2,200 cubic centimeters, 2nd category of cars, it's about 1,000 euro. The next category is 1,200 - 1,400 euros," she said.

The excise tax rates, she said, are based on engine capacity.

Yuzhanina says the decision covers vehicles after 2000 and after 2010 as well.

The amendments will be made to the Tax, Customs, and Budget Codes.

"It's a huge steps towards the people," the head of the tax committee said.

On Sept. 6-7, owners of cars with European licence plates protested at Verkhovna Rada building in support of legalization of their cars in Ukraine. They demanded 5-percent excise duty rate and moratorium on Euro5 standard for bringing European cars in Ukraine.
