This was announced by SBU adviser Yurii Tandit on air of 112 Ukraine, Censor.NET reports.
He said people illegally detain civilians who cross contact line and charge them with crimes they never committed. One of the prisoners who was later released, Vitalii Rudenko, was detained this way. Rudenko was detained in fall 2016 despite receiving guarantees of security.
Rudenko traveled to his father's funeral and was given security guarantees by Luhansk. However, as he crossed the demarcation line, he was detained. The Donbas terrorists held him for several months illegally. Since the very beginning, his release was fought for by the Ukrainian delegation in Minsk, Tandit said.
"As of today, 137 Ukrainian citizens are held hostages. Unfortunately, this number has increased recently due to the fact that the Donbas terrorists who detain our citizens, they detain them illegally, and charge regular citizens of crimes they never committed. The number has increased also over the fact that people who were not armed, who were not at the contact line are being detained. They were just moving, and are civilians," Tandit said.
On July 30, terrorists released two people - Judge Vitalii Rudenko and Liudmyla Surzhenko, who was detained over not fulfilling the terrorists' commands as the woman has hearing issues.
