Prosecutor requested trial for Yanukovych in absentia, hearing postponed


The prosecution has requested that the case against former president Yanukovych was heard on Obolonskyi district court in Kyiv without the suspect, in absentia. The agency has filed a relevant request.

Prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko said that the suspect, Victor Yanukovych, has been put on national and international wanted list.

"The suspect is hiding in Russia with the purpose to evade justice," Kravchenko said.

Yanukovych's lawyer Vitalii Serdiuk asked the court not to consider this request for a special procedure.

"Such requests are considered in another part of the process, only after the indictment," Serdiuk said. He subsequently asked for a break to get acquainted with the prosecution's request.
