The lawmaker said in an interview with Censor.NET.
"I was informed by official sources that I was barred from entering our country. All three of my foreign passports including the diplomatic one were canceled. The Border Guard Service was instructed by the Migration Service and Interior Ministry to prevent me from crossing the state border," Artemenko said.
"I received the Canadian passport under labor migration program. I officially requested the Canadian authorities to revoke my citizenship and cancel the passport in 2014 when I was entering the elected office," he said.
Artemenko did not explain in what activities exactly he was going to be engaged in Canada, but assured that his passport had been revoked and he was actually not a citizen of Canada. However, he admitted that the formal procedure to revoke his citizenship had not been completed.
"I'm probably the only acting people's deputy and stateless person in the world. I have never heard of similar precedents taking place in the past," Artemenko said.
"Now I must make up my mind whether to ask the Canadian government to restore my citizenship and my Canadian passport or appeal to the U.S. authorities for granting me political asylum in connection with the political persecution in Ukraine. I consider both options together with my legal team," he said.
Artemenko added he was aware of dual citizenship of 102 current and former people's deputies. According to him, this information was obtained by his lawyers for legal redress. The lawmaker promised to make the list public soon.
As reported by The New York Times, Artemenko offered an alleged action plan to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict to Michael Flynn, the former U.S. president's national security adviser. The plan stipulates the withdrawal of all Russian forces from eastern Ukraine and the launch of an all-Ukrainian referendum to decide whether Crimea could be leased to Russia for a term of 50 or 100 years. The Radical Party parliamentary faction unanimously decided to expel Andrii Artemenko from its ranks.
Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea based in Kyiv initiated a criminal case into suspicion of MP Andrii Artemenko of high treason.
People's Deputy Dmytro Linko (Oleh Liashko's Radical Party faction) later posted on Facebook a copy of the decree stripping MP Artemenko of Ukrainian citizenship.
