Interior Minister Avakov fires two top police officials in Dnipro city and region


The dismissals are related to the events in Dnipro City on May 9.

As reported by Censor.NET, Interior Ministers Arsen Avakov announced the dismissals on his Facebook page.

"Following preliminary investigation into the incidents and provocations in Dnipro, this morning an order to dismiss the following persons was signed: Chief of Police in Dnipropetrovsk region General Repeshko, Chief of City Police Department of Dnipro Colonel Bidylo, and involved deputy chiefs responsible for public security," Avakov wrote.

The minister announced interior investigation into the incident with the purpose of subsequent examination of the policemen's activities.

The results of the investigation will be made public.

Avakov wrote he hopes the lesson will be learnt by Dnipro police and politicians.

As reported, on May 9, clashes occurred near the Monument of Glory in Dnipro. After pro-Ukrainian activists demanded to remove political and proscribed insignia - St. George ribbons, communist flags, etc. - a group of young people, who came to the monument together with Opposition Bloc MP Oleksandr Vilkul, attacked the activists and ATO soldiers.
