Ukraine PM orders dismissal of three worst-performing regional police chiefs

The most underperforming heads of the National Police departments should be discharged based on the results for the first half of 2017.

Ukraine's Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman said speaking at an Interior Ministry board meeting, Censor.NET reports citing 112 Ukraine.

"Based on the results of the year's first half, the staff issue should be considered. We have raised salaries and procurement financing. You have the full support. People want to feel safe at home, outside, on the roads. Only you can ensure it on the ground. I understand it is difficult to improve the situation having worked just two or three months. Based on the results of the first half of the year, I ask you to prepare a ranking of regions and dismiss the heads of those in its bottom," Hroisman said.

The departments in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, according to the prime minister, make an exception due to their specific structure.

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov emphasized poor results in the Odesa region in many respects, adding it was not long since the new local police chief had been appointed.

"We see that in all these charts the Odesa region, for example, is marked in red. Below midpoint. We understand Holovin has been in the post for not so long, but still we have questions," Avakov said.
