MP Holub quits PPB faction: "Something's going wrong in the country"

Member of the Ukrainian Parliament Vladyslav Holub, who was elected at the single-seat electoral district No. 197 in the Cherkasy region as member of Petro Poroshenko Bloc (PPB) party, has pulled out of the PPB faction in the Verkhovna Rada.

"I quit PPB," Holub said in an exclusive interview to a correspondent for Censor.NET.

According to him, his resignation was not caused by emotions, but much due to the voting to elect an independent NABU auditor. It was also affected by the vote to amend the law on the prevention of corruption when the lawmakers were trying to bring back the initial text of the bill by putting to vote every single amendment previously introduced by the relevant committee.

Another reason was the scale of corruption of local authorities which left the one in the central government far behind: "The members of local authorities started confusing decentralization with the Russian federalization at some point. They started treating a region or a district as their property and using public funds at their own discretion. But the worst thing is that they do not feel that they will bear responsibility and punishment for their dishonest actions!

"Again, this position contradicts the one the people were standing up for on the Maidan in late 2013 and early 2014. And this is not what we have taken the power for. We sought to change this state for the better, and not vice versa. You know, when a governor's family becomes one of the largest land owners "by sheer luck", the question arises: Is this what we build our state for? These are the things I cannot comprehend. All these issues, both nationwide and local, became the reason for my decision. I can't help feeling that something is going wrong in the country," the lawmaker added.

Holub also said that no attempts were made to force him retain his membership in PPB faction. However, asked why he made no decision to leave the elected office, he said: "I think it might have been the easiest thing for me to do, but I am not the one who makes easy shortcuts."
