48 people were killed and more than 200 received injuries during clashes between pro-Russian and pro-Ukrainian activists in Odesa on May 2, 2014. Most of the victims died as a result of the arson in the House of Trade Unions on Kulykove Pole, where the pro-Russian activists' camp was located. However, the first deaths, caused by gunfire in the area of Hretska Ploshcha [one of the main squares of Odesa], were among the pro-Ukrainian activists.

The separatists behind the riot were detained. In April 2015, the prosecutor's office filed the first episode of the tragedy to court.

At the moment, the Malynivskyi district court of Odesa considers several episodes in the Odesa tragedy case.

20 people are still tried, with five of them staying in custody (including two Russians).
