The prosecutor's office asked for extending the remand of Firtash, who was detained on Feb. 21 at the U.S. extradition request.

The Vienna's court sees the 125 million euro bail posted by Firtash's defense back in 2014 as sufficient preventive measure. Moreover, Firtash has surrendered his foreign passport, is forbidden to leave the territory of Austria and must appear in court at regular intervals.

The decision may be appealed by both parties within 14 days.

On Feb. 21, the Higher Regional Court of Vienna, as an appeals court, granted the extradition of Ukrainian businessman Dmytro Firtash to the United States, overturning the decision by the first instance court. The previous decision, dated April 30, 2015, recognized that the U.S. request for the extradition of Firtash was politically motivated. Minutes after the appeals court granted oligarch's extradition, Firtash was detained on Spain's arrest warrant.

On Feb. 23, the Austrian court saw no reason to remand Firtash in custody for his further extradition to Spain.
