Butivka mine, Opytne, Pisky come under heaviest tank fire since Donetsk airport battle, - Motuzianyk

Ukrainian position near Butivka mine, the villages of Opytne and Pisky (the Donetsk region) have come under the most powerful tank attack since the battle for Donetsk airport.

Defense Ministry spokesman on ATO matters Oleksandr Motuzianyk told journalists, Censor.NET reports citing UNIAN.

According to him, the situation on Avdiivka's right flank remains difficult.

"The enemy has redeployed an additional tank unit to the area of Spartak and Donetsk airport and threw it into the battle yesterday. The Butivka mine position as well as Opytne and Pisky villages came under the heaviest tank fire since the battle for the Donetsk airport," Motuzianyk said.

Militants are actively using mortars and artillery in this sector.

"Traditionally, the enemy fires from a distance, right from the residential areas of Spartak, Yasynuvata and Donetsk," the spokesman added.

According to him, fighting is also taking place on Avdiivka's left flank, near the Donetsk filtration plant, Kruta Balka and Kamianka. The situation here is somewhat calmer compared to that on Jan. 29.

Motuzianyk also reported an escalation at the Svitlodarsk salient and near Horlivka, in particular the villages of Zaitseve and Verkhniotoretske.
