Cabinet to seek lower medicine prices effective Feb. 1, PM says

Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has set to seek the implementation of the decision to lower the prices for drugs that cure high blood pressure, diabetes, and asthma effective Feb. 1, 2017.

This was announced by Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman on air of ICTV on Monday, Censor.NET reports citing the governmental website.

"I am certain that effective Feb. 1, when the new deliveries of medicines are received, we will seek and see the decrease in prices for these drug categories," the prime minister said.

"The paradox is that in Poland the same drugs are sold cheaper than in Ukraine. As soon as I reached for this paradox, the government got attacked. We will proceed in the selected direction.

"As for the medicines, our task is to guarantee lower prices in three categories - high blood pressure, diabetes, and asthma," Hroisman said.

The government intends to follow up on the implementation of its decision on lowering the prices for the designated group of medicines, the prime minister said.

Hroisman met with pharmaceutical manufacturing companies on the matter, he said. More meetings to follow, the PM said.

On April 1, a reimbursement program for certain groups of drugs is to be launched (heart diseases, diabetes of II type and asthma). The program aims at lowering the level of disabilities and death caused by high blood pressure by 18 percent.
