 National Police: 20-year-old prisoner beaten to death in Kyiv detention facility dies in hospital

A 20-year-old prisoner died in hospital without regaining consciousness after he sustained injuries in a Kyiv detention center.

Censor.NET reports citing the statement of the Communications Department of the Kyiv National Police Main Directorate.

According to the agency, the Shevchenkivskyi district police precinct received a report that a person in custody was hospitalized with an injury to the head he sustained in the detention center.

A paramedic told the crime scene team that the person was found unconscious with traces of violence in his bed. The prisoner was immediately taken to the hospital. However he died some time later without regaining consciousness.

"The law enforcement officers found no clues at the scene and got no information after they interviewed the witnesses - five victim's inmates," the statement reads.

The body of the deceased was sent for forensic examination in order to determine the cause of death, severity of injuries, and their nature.

The criminal proceedings were initiated into the incident under part 2 of article 121 (intentional infliction of serious bodily injury that caused death) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation is underway.
