Poroshenko urges EP's Tajani to back granting Ukraine autonomous trade preferences

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has called Antonio Tajani to congratulate on assuming the office of president of the European Parliament.

Poroshenko expressed hope for European Parliament's continued and strong support of Ukraine in restoring its territorial integrity and deepening relations with the European Union, Censor.NET reports citing the presidential press office.

The parties discussed prospects for the completion of the EU procedures vital for introduction of the visa-free travel for Ukrainian citizens as well as the entry into force of the EU-Ukraine association deal.

Poroshenko urged the European Parliament to back the proposal of the European Commission to grant Ukraine with autonomous trade preferences to promote further diversification of Ukrainian exports in the face of economic pressure by the Russian Federation.

The president thanked the European Parliament for not recognizing the annexation of Crimea by Russia and called for its active opposing of Russia's repression and human rights violations against the Ukrainians, including the Crimean Tatars, and furthering the release of all hostages illegally detained in the territory of the Russian Federation.
