Batkivshchyna faction will not vote for revoking Savchenko's membership in National Security Committee, - Ihor Lutsenko

The Batkivshchyna parliamentary faction will not vote for the exclusion of independent people's deputy Nadiia Savchenko from the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense.

Ihor Lutsenko, a Batkivshchyna MP, told 112 Ukraine, Censor.NET reports.

"I believe this resolution does not make any sense as the rules provide no mechanism to expel a deputy from a committee. I don't think that the scandal fomented around Savchenko is unbiased. Savchenko is an ordinary MP. If we don't want her to be a lawmaker, we may take action but only at a political level. If she is a deputy, she should work in the committee, it's her duty," Lutsenko said.

"With all my radical condemnation of those things that Savchenko says every now and then, they - I've already talked to representatives of the prosecutor's office - don't constitute treason so far. If they did, I'm sure that a criminal proceeding would have long been instituted and a lot of politicians would be engaged and trying to further it," he added.

"Moreover, I doubt that such a legal nonsense would score more than 150 votes in this hall," the lawmaker noted.

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense considered at its meeting on Jan. 18 a proposal by Petro Poroshenko Bloc MP Ivan Vynnyk to revoke Nadiia Savchenko's membership in the committee over the fact of high treason. The committee members supported the proposal.
