No attack committed on Lukianivka jail guards; probe to establish who injured Tornado fighter, Kyiv police chief says

Chief of Kyiv police Andrii Kryshchenko said the investigation was launched to establish whether disbanded Tornado fighter injured himself or someone else did it.

As reported by Censor.NET, he said on air of 112 Ukraine TV channel late on Wednesday.

Kyiv police Chief Andrii Kryshchenko reported a former soldier of Tornado Company sustained injury. The investigation is to find out whether he hurt himself or someone else did it. The Tornado fighter's fellows-in-arms who were also held in Lukianivka detention center urged the guards to provide him immediate care. A riot sparked as a result.

According to Kryshchenko, it was quashed shortly after. The injured fighter was taken to a medical facility where he was provided medical care. His condition is now stable. Kyiv police chief said no attack was committed on Lukianivka jail guards.

Earlier, a former soldier of Tornado Company cut off his ear following the court hearing on Jan. 11. The injured Tornado soldier underwent surgery and was taken back to Lukianivka detention center. According to Radical Party MP Ihor Mosiichuk, the soldier cut off his ear with a shank and then threw it into the guards forcing them flee to the armory and lock themselves.

As reported, Tornado Special Forces Company was earlier a part of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine. Eight Tornado fighters, including company commander Ruslan Onyshchenko, were detained on charges of local residents' abduction, holding them in captivity, torture, murder, and a number of other serious crimes in June 2015.

Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov signed the order disbanding Tornado Company on July 18, 2015. The unit has been undone, while its commander Ruslan Onyshchenko and several soldiers are being tried.
