Reinforcing NATO's borders: Poland welcomes another 300 American military

A group of about 300 American soldiers arrived on Wednesday in Poland as part of a NATO plan to strengthen the alliance's presence in Eastern Europe.

The troops arrived to Poznan, western Poland, from Frankfurt and joined close to 1,000 other U.S. military already on Polish soil.

The number of U.S. troops stationed in Poland is to rise further in January. After a series of joint maneuvers in Poland, the units will be deployed to Bulgaria, Romania and the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

On Jan. 14, a series of ceremonies are scheduled across Poland to welcome the troops. Zagan Base in southeast Poland will be the main welcoming venue with the attendance of Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo and Minister of Defense Antoni Macierewicz.

In addition, the provincial Polish cities will hold the so-called picnics, during which everyone will be able to see the military equipment. Special screens will be broadcasting live the welcoming ceremony in Zagan.
