The document addresses certain issues related to the enlistment, continuation and retirement from the military. In particular, it will allow soldiers drafted under various types of contracts during a special period to continue service under a new contract or retire at their will.

"It allows you to terminate contracts with those who want to return home, but at the same time not in the least reduce the combat effectiveness and readiness of units, especially those deployed in the ATO zone to protect our state," Poroshenko told Minister of Defense Stepan Poltorak and General Staff Chief Viktor Muzhenko as he signed the law.

"The citizens of Ukraine who concluded virtually unlimited contracts during a special period are given the opportunity to restore justice and allow commanders to effect their dismissal," the president pointed out.

He also noted the conclusion of contracts progresses as planned.

"We are rapidly approaching 70,000 [contract soldiers], and it testifies to a very high level of patriotism and readiness to defend Ukraine with arms in hands," Poroshenko said. "We can really argue we've built a new Ukrainian army over 2.5 years," he added.
