As reported by Censor.NET citing Kyiv police officials, a person entered a cell phone shop on Esplanadna Street at 7:25 p.m. Dec. 30. The attacker demanded to hand over the money. When the employees refused to meet the robber's demand, he fired several shots with an automatic weapon at a man and a woman and fled.
The injured persons were hospitalized in critical condition.
A source in law enforcement agency later told Obozrevatel that the gunman tried to rob the cell phone shop not far from Kyiv's Palats Sportu.
According to the source, there were two sales assistants and a woman-visitor in the shop. The robber ordered to give him the money at gunpoint. He opened fire and wounded the visitor as his demands were not fulfilled.
One of the sales assistants, male, attacked the offender, and received a gunshot wound as they started fighting. A passer-by saw what was happening and rushed to help the injured sales assistant.
The offender fled as he obviously did not expect such a resistance. The woman-visitor and the man who tried to stop the robber were taken to hospital in critical condition.
The investigators have examined the scene. The law enforcers say the surveillance camera on the nearby house could have captured the perpetrator.
As reported by 112 Ukraine TV channel, Kyiv's Pechersk District Police Department Chief Andrii Dubrov said the doctors denied the law enforcers' access to the victims. The woman was in the intensive care unit while the sales assistant underwent a surgery.
