Many people in occupied Crimea look forward to Ukrainian authorities and army return, - writer Zhadan

Ukrainian poet, writer and translator Serhii Zhadan believes that a great number of Crimean residents are looking forward to the return of the Ukrainian government.

As reported by Censor.NET, Zhadan said in an interview to Krym.Realii.

"I am convinced that a large number of people living on the other side of the frontline in annexed Crimea are waiting for return of the Ukrainian authorities, for return of the Ukrainian army. Why am I so sure? I've got friends there, who I communicate with. They have different views, different beliefs. Some of them are glad to see members of the so-called "LPR", "DNR" and Russian militants there. Some are not happy: they are waiting for the return," the writer said.

According to Zhadan, it is necessary to remember about the people living in the occupied territories in order for Ukraine to retain its independence.

"If we really want our country to remain independent in future, we must understand that there are people on the other side of the "border" sharing this view. If we do not understand and accept this, then the question arises what we are fighting for in this war?" he stressed.

"Zhadan and the Dogs" band went on a nationwide tour that allowed the musicians to raise enough money for the mother of political prisoner Oleksandr Kolchenko to be able to visit her son in the Russian prison.

As previously reported, in August 2015, the North Caucasus military district court sentenced Ukrainian director Oleh Sentsov and activist Oleksandr Kolchenko to 20 and 10 years in prison on terrorism charges. Both Ukrainians deny their guilt. The Human Rights Center "Memorial" has recognized them as political prisoners.Источник: https://censor.net.ua/en/n421319
