Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity of 2013-2014 dubbed "coup" by Russian court

The Dorogomilovsky court of Moscow has granted the claim of fugitive former Party of Regions MP Volodymyr Oliinyk and acknowledged the Revolution of Dignity to be an alleged "coup."

As noted by the Russian propaganda agency, the court questioned Ukraine's fugitive former top officials, including Viktor Yanukovych and chief of his office Andrii Kliuiev, ex-Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and others.

Increased security measures were introduced prior to the meeting - both the building entrance and the floor where the process was going were protected by police and court guards. Journalists were not allowed into the hall and watched the process via video broadcast in a separate room.

The court concluded that the seizure of administrative buildings, the adoption of legislative amendments in the winter of 2014 as well as the ousting of former leaders of the state allegedly constitute the elements of a "coup."

Only two weeks passed between the start of the proceedings on Dec. 15 and the announcement of the verdict.

Following the Revolution of Dignity, Oliinyk fled the country and is now hiding in Moscow, where together with former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov and another former Party of Regions member Ihor Markov they have set up the so-called "Committee of Salvation of Ukraine." After that he became involved in a criminal proceeding related to public calls for the seizure of power in Ukraine (part 3, article 109 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

He is also a subject in the "dictatorship laws" case opened in connection with the adoption of nine bills in Jan. 2014 that imposed severe restrictions of constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens. The case falls within several articles of the Criminal Code, including the abuse of power or position, forgery, etc.
