Man shoots himself dead during apprehension; he might be former Naftohaz Ukrainy deputy head Yuriev

A man who might be identified as former deputy head of Naftohaz Ukrainy during Yanukovych's tenure, defendant in the Katsuba brothers case Hennadii Yuriev shot himself dead during apprehension on Dec. 21.

The man committed suicide in a private house in the Vinnytsia region, Censor.NET reports.

Yuriev has been on the wanted list in relation to the case of abuse of office in Naftohaz.

He acted jointly with Katsuba brothers who are suspected of embezzling 17 billion hryvnia. Katsubas were the closest cronies of Viktor and Oleksandr Yanukovych and Serhii Arbuzov.

Yuriev was one of Katsubas' cronies, who was put on the wanted list on Sept. 30 and has been hiding.

Dec. 21, military prosecutor's office and SBU were conducting detention of four Katsubas case defendants. Military prosecutors revealed possible residence of Yuriev. This morning the yard of the house where Yuriev could possibly hide was entered by the military prosecutors, SBU officers, representatives of the state security company that has been contracted to guard the house, and witnesses to the search. Upon entering, they heard a sound of a shot. Inside the house, they found a body of a man, presumably Hennadii Yuriev. A hunting rifle was found near him.

The detention of the other three defendants in the Katsubas case was successful. Investigation continues.
