Production of most advanced missile complexes Ukraine’s primary task, NSDC chief says

National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov says Ukraine intends to produce the most advanced missile systems.

As reported by Censor.NET, Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov said in an interview with Lіga.

According to him, there was a significant funding gap in 2016: "We were to receive significant investment from the special fund which replenishment was barred by the parliament. This raises major concern."

However, Turchynov expressed hope that the situation would change for the better in 2017.

"I told the leadership of the government and parliament that we cannot include unsecured defense and security sector expenditures in the state budget," he said.

The NSDC secretary also said that a major breakthrough was made in missile production: "We're not just trying to recover the lost technology but intend to produce most advanced missiles. For example, if we take multiple launch rocket systems, their missiles should be guided to be capable of pinpoint strikes but not just cover certain territory as the Russian counterparts do.

"Our task is not only to meet NATO standards, but, first of all, make our weapons better than the Russian ones. We set goals for our defense industry to create advanced weapons. The greatest challenge we face on this path is artificial restriction in military and technical cooperation. Our partners are still reluctant to aid us in equipping our troops with arms. We have to do everything on our own although development of many advanced weapons requires strong international cooperation."

Turchynov earlier said that Ukraine was and would continue developing missile production since the country needed a reliable missile shield.
