Duma sanctions short-term military contracts allowing for engaging in operations outside Russia

The Russian State Duma has passed a bill to allow draftees and reservists to conclude short-term military contracts at a time of emergency or to participate in peacekeeping and anti-terrorist operations abroad.

As reported by Censor.NET citing TASS, those who sign the contracts will not have to undergo a probationary period of three months stipulated by the general rules for admission to military service under contract.

"The bill allows both draftees and citizens in reserve who wish to enter military service under contract to conclude one... to participate in solving tasks at a time of emergency or in activities to maintain or restore peace and security or to suppress international terrorist activities outside the territory of Russia," the explanatory note reads.

A contract will be valid until the termination of the circumstances that provoked its conclusion, but not more than one year from the date of signing.
