Pussy Riot member Alekhina supported Sentsov at European Film Awards

Maria Alekhina, member of Russian well-known Pussy Riot band, summoned to support Ukrainian filmmaker and political prisoner in Russia Oleh Sentsov at the European Film Awards ceremony in the Polish city of Wroclaw.

Censor.NET reports citing Hromadske.

"Several years ago I sang a 40-second song against Putin - a guy all of us don't like. that got me into prison for two years. But I am here to talk about Ukrainian director Oleh Sentsov, your colleague, who has not committed anything like that... Sentsov got 20 years in prison," Aliokhina said.

"Oleh has two children, he is 40-years-old. 20 years in a Russian prison actually mean death," she said.

Aliokhina read out a well-known quote from the letter Sentsov wrote a few months ago: "If we are to become nails in the coffin of the tyrant, I would like to become such a nail. Just know that this nail won't bend.''

"I want to say a very simple thing: I believe that society is stronger than any authorities because society has no frontiers. And I believe, really believe that with the society we can change things. And finally I want to ask you to stand up for Oleh and his freedom now," the activist said.

The audience stood up in support of the Ukrainian director.
