Poroshenko signs laws to boost construction of new roads

President Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelian and newly appointed Head of the State Road Agency Sławomir Nowak, where he signed three basic laws encouraging the construction of new roads in Ukraine.

"This industry creates jobs and helps secure economic development in the regions," Poroshenko said.

According to him, "it is extremely important to ensure that the road construction is transparent, that every kopeck of taxpayers is efficiently spent, maximum Ukrainian producers are involved and the best quality is achieved."

The president congratulated Sławomir Nowak on stepping into a very responsible post and emphasized that "the state road construction is the president's top priority during both the election campaign and implementation of programs aimed at leading Ukraine out of crisis."

In turn, Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian noted that the laws would facilitate the reform of the industry.

"So far, we have a Soviet model. Now that Mr. Sławomir Nowak has assumed duties, I hope we will see a European model of road repair and construction in 2017," the minister said.
